Joe Vella Bonnici 
A Commonwealth Scholar who has obtained degrees in Economics and Public Policy, Joe has specialised in
economic development and
international business.
Joe is a management consultant to international institutions on development, competitiveness, and on small and medium enterprises.
He has served as the Chief Executive of the Institute for the Promotion of Small Enterprise Ltd. which was the local agency responsible for SMEs and for the restructuring of industry in Malta.
Joe has worked for the Malta Development Corporation on investment and export promotion. In this job he travelled worldwide, addressing seminars and having one-to one meetings with some of the largest multinationals. For a few years he was seconded to Enemalta Corp. and was responsible for the purchasing of petroleum products for the country.
He has addressed a number of local conferences and conventions, and has written various articles on SMEs, competitiveness, the impact of globalisation etc. |

Joe is a former board member of the Malta Council for Science And Technology and the Foundation for Human Resource Development. He has also served as a member of the Expert Committee on SMEs within the Euro-Med Industrial Co-operation programme.
Between 1996-8, Joe served as Chairman of the Advisory Council within the Forum for a Better Economy, and was responsible for the issuing of a Preliminary Strategic Plan for the Maltese Economy entitled “VALUE 2000”.
He lectures International Business and related subjects at the local University.
For a number of years, Joe was the General Manager for Marketing, Sales and Distribution with Simonds Farsons Cisk plc, a local brewery, beverages and catering group of companies. During this period Joe worked closely with multinational groups such as Pepsico, Schweppes and Carlsberg for which the Farsons Group was the local franchisee.
He has held directorships and consultant posts in a number of companies in manufacturing, tourism, transport and the catering industries.
