Charles Caruana Carabez

is the Department Head and Subject Co-ordinator for English at the Malta Junior College.

Having won a Government scholarship, Charles had entered the Royal University of Malta in 1964, reading for a B.A. (Hons) Degree in English Language and Literature . Charles had graduated in 1969 with Honours and in 1970 started reading for an M.A. Degree on Shakespearean Tragedy in conjunction with The Shakespeare Institute, Birmingham, graduating in 1974.

Charles joined the Education Department in 1969 as Master, and he has taught at various Secondary and Technical institutions until posted to the Government Sixth Form.  He was one of the original team which pioneered the teaching of English to Foreign students, and was a part-time lecturer in English and Pedagogy at the Libyan Arab College for several years.   In 1974, Charles became Head of Department.  Having joined the Junior College at its inception, Charles progressed into becoming the Subject Co-ordinator for English, a post retained till to-date.

Charles has written a large number of articles on politics, social issues and education in English language newspapers and journals. He has also produced a number of educational programmes for a private radio station.

Charles is married with two children, and is a grandfather of three.
